Morning SUP in the Rain: A Quiet Encounter

Nihonkamoshika 【Japanese Serow】

It was a quiet, rainy morning on the lake. Despite the wind and light rain, the forest felt remarkably still. During our tour, we happened upon a Japanese serow standing atop the lava flows where the Aokigahara Jukai forest meets the water.

It was simply gazing out at the lake, seemingly undisturbed by our presence on the boards. These creatures are known for their calm and curious nature, but seeing one so close to the water’s edge felt like a rare gift from the forest.

In Japan, the serow is a protected species that embodies the spirit of the mountains. Observing its steady gaze amidst the rocky terrain was a reminder of the quiet life that continues here, regardless of the weather. A small, meaningful discovery on an otherwise ordinary rainy day.
